Class of 1962 Scholarship
Brief History of Scholarship and Future Plans
Twenty years ago, a small group of classmates from the Dundalk Senior High
School Class of 1962 agreed to establish an annual scholarship for the school as a way to give back to the Dundalk
community and to encourage graduating DHS seniors. That initial group, led by Richard Sizer, established the Class of 62
Scholarship Fund as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization under the Internal Revenue Code.
Read The Bylaws of our Scholarship Fund
as amended July 2015.
Every penny collected has been used to fund scholarships. Individual donations have ranged from $10 to $1,000. A few
class members included our Scholarship Fund in their estate planning. Our initial scholarship award in 2002 was for
$4000, payable over 4 years as long as the recipient remained in school. This amount was periodically increased. In
2021 the award was $10,000. Other special awards were added based on grants from individual donors. As of 2021 our class
had given a total of $141,500 to graduating seniors at Dundalk. The Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees has now voted to
gradually end our scholarship program. We intend to provide single annual $10,000 scholarships through 2024, which will
mark 62 years after our own graduation. Our distribution schedule will provide four payments of $2500 per year to the
class of 2021 recipient, three payments of $3,333 per year to the class of 2022 winner, and two payments of $5,000 to
the class of 2023. A final award in 2024 will be determined at that time.
