Class of 1962 Scholarship
Brief History of Scholarship
Twenty years ago, a small group of classmates from the Dundalk Senior High
School Class of 1962 agreed to establish an annual scholarship for the school as a way to give back to the Dundalk
community and to encourage graduating DHS seniors. That initial group, led by Richard Sizer, established the Class of 62
Scholarship Fund as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization under the Internal Revenue Code.
Read The Bylaws of our Scholarship Fund
as amended July 2015.
Every penny collected has been used to fund scholarships. Individual donations have ranged from $10 to $1,000. A few
class members included our Scholarship Fund in their estate planning. Our initial scholarship award in 2002 was for
$4000, payable over 4 years as long as the recipient remained in school. This amount was periodically increased. In
2021 the award was $10,000. Other special awards were added based on grants from individual donors.
The Class of 62 Scholarship Fund was recognized as a
m501(c)(3) organization under the Internal Revenue Code as a charitable organization. All donations were tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
Scholarship Closeout Message
As was planned at the end of 2024, the DHS Class of '62 scholarship effort has been closed. We closed our non-profit corporation, our checking account and the T. Rowe Price mutual fund account which was used to hold surplus donation
money as it increased in earned value, which funded our final two years of scholarship awards.
Our closing target of December 31, 2024 was established because Father Time affected our donor list as well as our "worker bees". On behalf of our entire committee, I wish to sincerely thank and congratulate all of our classmates, donors or not, for maintaining the class of '62 spirit which answered Yes when we first got motivated to give back to our community and leave a positive legacy for our high school class.
The Board of Directors included:
Dick Marcheski, President, Tammy Sturgis, Vice President, John Schroeder, Secretary. Ginny Gray, Treasurer.Richard DuChateau, Web Master. And Our At Large Voting Members including: Carol Haag, Ken Merrill, and Roy Sparks.
